OVERVIEW
Students will learn and explore career opportunities that are available in various Indigenous
career sectors. Indigenous careers can involve jobs from numerous sectors, including health
care, education, business, arts, and more. Indigenous jobs sectors are typical "every-day"
jobs that either include some form of Indigenous cultural aspect or impact an Indigenous
community. A person working in the Indigenous jobs sector can work in an Indigenous
organization, community, business; work as an Indigenous person; work with Indigenous
peoples; or work in a job that they can attain with an Indigenous Studies post-secondary
education. Indigenous careers are important to Canada and our economy so there are many
Indigenous communities and organizations that oer such employment. Students who may
not even be aware of the plethora of careers and opportunities oered in the Indigenous job
sector. Learning about various Indigenous careers contributes to the spirit of reconciliation
by teaching both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students the positive impacts that Indige-
nous careers have on our community. Students will research a career that is highlighted in
a chosen Fireside Chats video series. Students will then create a 3-5 minute presentation of
their career to the class in their chosen presentation style (poster, PowerPoint presentation,
etc.)
