The purpose of the Sharing Circle used as part of classroom instruction is to create a safe environment in which students can share their point of view with others. Students will then watch Carly Chart- ier's interview about her career working at the Selkirk Friendship Centre where she works in Human Resources helping community members find resources/supports and information about post-secondary opportunities. Students will take the information learned in the video and apply the concepts to their own lives by creating a visual of the support systems they have in their own lives. Students will self-assess their final projects based on the rubric posted below. MATERIALS •Grandfather Rock/Talking Stick •Writing instruments for students (pens, pencils, etc.) •Large poster paper or chart paper •Pencil crayons, markers, permanent markers •"Sharing Circle Teacher Resource" (optional) •"Support Systems Visual Activity" Hand Out •"Support Systems Visual Self-Assessment" Rubric Culture *Before starting this lesson, research Sharing Circle/Talking Circle teachings in your local com- munity by speaking with an Elder or Knowledge Keeper; alternatively, read through the Sharing Circle Teacher Guide. We recommend inviting an Elder or Knowledge Keeper into your classroom to give this teaching (see "Activate" section). Lesson Plan
