Lesson Two: Senator Yvonne Boyer 97 MAAMAWI ISLAND Our class is heading on a trip across the ocean! Sadly, our flight encountered a bad storm, and we became stranded together on a remote island. We find an old broken sign saying "Maamawi Island". Since we are so far away, it will be sev- eral weeks until we are rescued. Your teacher and the other adults have decided to travel to the nearest island for help. You and the class must figure out how everyone will try to live together and survive. With your group, figure out how you will live together and survive by answering the following questions. 1.How will the class build shelter and find food and water? Will the class work together as a whole team, in small teams or individually? Explain. 2.If your group chose for people to work as a team, or in small groups, how would you divide up the tasks? (Who will get water, who will get food? Is there a schedule or rotation?) 3.Will a leader be chosen from the class to help lead everyone? How will they be chosen? What will be the leader's role and what power will they have over everyone? 4.Are rules necessary? What rules are needed? Who will make the important decisions? 5.What happens to classmates who are not contributing or breaking rules?
