Be the change you want to see. In response to the devastating death of George Floyd and renewed recognition that racism is still prevalent in every facet of our society, the Fully Focused Youth Team, UK, wanted to connect with young people from other countries to convene and share their experiences as a young Black person and barriers that impact their daily lives. This connection resulted in the initiation of the Black Lives Matter: Transatlantic Conversation, where 10 young people, from Canada, the USA, and the UK, participated in a three hours long LIVE conversation on their experiences as a young Black person in their communities and their experience with racism. The conversation also focused on how community leaders and organisations can support the healing process and create safer spaces to catalyze change, and how their peers can be better allies to Black, Indigenous, and other people of colour. To prepare for this LIVE conversation the Fully Focused Youth Team facilitated 13 preparation sessions, determined the structure and the goal of the live conversation, and provided opportunities for young people to share their voice and views through a working Google Doc, emails, and chat. The live conversation was hosted on the Fully Focused YouTube channel: Million Youth Media. The topics and issues discussed in the LIVE event resulted in a self-evaluation toolkit for community leaders and organisations. This toolkit will provide you with a set of guided questions to review and reflect on your organisational practice and how you can incorporate a framework for accountability into your organisation's best practices.
