16 The following is an example of a few priorities and action items identified by TakingITGlobal to be incorporated if not already mandated into their best practices moving forward. YOUTH VOICE & EMPOWERMENT - Address the complexity of racism/inequality from multiple perspectives and create safer spaces for young people to creatively raise awareness of these issues within the wider community - Creating spaces for young people to take on leadership roles within the community - Seeking out funding that allows to create paid opportunities for young people to lead initiatives in their communities - Create spaces for young people to share their stories through various mediums, such as film, art, storytelling, public speaking, etc. KNOWLEDGE & EDUCATION - Have ongoing professional development of sta members to increase awareness and knowledge with working with young people of colour - Secure funding to work with community leaders to deliver national and international programs that support and empower young people of colour - Working closely with young people to best understand how to best support their growth and leadership journey COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT - Ensure that the organisations and people we work with share the same values - Proactively seek out guest speakers and mentors to represent participants in our programming - Continue to ensure team members are reflective of the communities we directly work with, making adjustments according to projects and programs and the communities they involve - Actively seek out mentors that reflect the communities in which participants identify with OPPORTUNITY & GROWTH - Source professionals of colour for one-to-one mentoring based on specific skills development and inquiries - Have anonymous feedback forms and incorporate this into revamping programmes to meet the needs of the participants - Continue to provide free of service programming to equity seeking young people - Incorporate professional development topics suggested young people of colour into on-going sta training
