PROLOGUE
Between September and December 2018, hundreds of high school students from coast-
to-coast came together through virtual connections and an online collaborative classroom
to discover, discuss, and dialogue significant and timely issues facing both Canadian and
global oceans and waterways. Under the guidance of expert mentors from Ocean Wise,
the student participants collaborated on a 4-month learning project. Informed by schools,
communities, regional cities and provincial perspectives they shared ideas, knowledge,
and experiences. The culmination of these efforts are held within this document - a final,
national dialogue focussing on the concerns, impacts and potential actions surrounding
plastics in our oceans and bodies of water. In an effort to capture and capitalize on our
shared passion, they have collaboratively written an informative paper: National Youth
Dialogue on Water Plastics.
