COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT Being aware of your impact on the ocean and finding a solution for ocean pollution begins at an individual level. Through education, people learn about their own ocean footprint, but greater community engagement is necessary to put knowledge into action concerning ocean pollution. There are many possible ways to do this, but we have highlighted what we consider to be some of the most impactful methods of this process. (1) Advisory committees - To spread awareness, connect policy makers with community members, and provide valuable experiences to members of the community. (2) Art - To showcase the effects of plastic on our oceans, to uncover harsh truths that were hidden, and to connect people anywhere. (3) Social Media - To spread knowledge, action, and motivation to every corner of the world; whether in China, Europe, Australia, or simply elsewhere in Canada, raising awareness of action to solve the problem of a ocean plastics, encourages other countries to follow. Advisories By organizing advisory committees, we can efficiently listen to the voices of our community while spreading awareness about the ocean pollution issue. We have seen this work before in various examples, one being the Alberta Minister's youth council, which provides inputs on education system, as well as programs and initiatives. Because of this
