allowing everyone's voices to be heard. It allows us to showcase previous success such as community-level shoreline cleanups, school-level plastic elimination programs, and individual-level pledges to change. The potential to build-upon individual movements to create a large, successful social campaign is highlighted in the success of the mobile app Litterati, that has the mission to track and reduce litter along shorelines by capturing images of litter, tagging it's geolocation, and then working with companies and organizations to find more sustainable solutions. Litterati has over 21.9 thousand followers on instagram: That is 21.9 thousand people that have made a conscious decision to prioritize the reduction of plastic and perhaps capitalize this in their own action and behaviour change. By fostering a meaningful discussion on climate change and plastic pollutants in our waterways, we can advance our societies forward. This could mean challenging others to do better - Go on social media or speak to your school. Challenge them to do something: small or big. Get involved on social media. Tag politicians and policy makers in your posts. Community involvement is about not letting the people in power ignore what is happening. Even though this is a monumental problem that we are facing, it is important to always be hopeful. Celebrating our successes. Building a community of support around the work we are already doing, and challenging others to take up similar projects and programs, will increase morale and further promote change. We want to make sure that everyone knows this is a problem and that everyone should be learning, thinking and tackling this incredible problem.
