This session takes students through the history of lacrosse, starting from the Creator's first game with his brother to the Medicine Game, and covering aspects like Winged vs. Land Animals, Wooden Stick Teachings, and Dispute Resolution. The session includes interactive demonstrations and hands-on learning. While no equipment is needed, students are welcome to bring lacrosse gear if available. Social Studies & History Haudenosaunee Lacrosse also offers The Haudenosaunee Story. Indigenous Snipers in World War One History Squad This presentation highlights the crucial contributions of Indigenous people to modern Canadian history. Starting with Indigenous volunteers from South Africa who fought alongside Canadian soldiers, we then explore their significant roles in the First World War, where their skills in tracking, hunting, and marksmanship became legendary. The session will feature stories of individual Indigenous soldiers, with opportunities for Q&A, and will include original artifacts and photographs. History Squad also offers Life in a Medieval Castle, Rise of the Nazis Part 2 | Hitler Comes to Power | Propaganda and The Vikings. Longhouses Gail Whitlow Join Gail Whitlow, a Mohawk of the Bear Clan and 13th Grandmother on the Turtle Island Council, for a virtual session exploring the significance of the Longhouse in Haudenosaunee culture. Gail, deeply committed to traditional ceremonies, will guide you through the cultural and symbolic importance of the Longhouse. Students will have the opportunity to ask thoughtful questions and compare their own diverse customs, fostering a deeper understanding of different cultural practices. Museum Highlights Tour Canadian Museum of Human Rights Students will explore multiple museum galleries, enhancing their understanding of human rights. Through engaging stories and hands-on activities, they will critically examine the barriers that still prevent the full realization of human rights for all people. As they learn about these challenges, students will also focus on practical ways, big or small, that they can make a difference.
