Eileen Beaver, a Dene language specialist from Rocher River, is fluent in Denesuline and Latin and has 25 years of experience as a K-12 language teacher. She is the lead actor, translator, and Elder advisor for the Three Feathers movie. In her sessions, Eileen shares Dene teachings, customized to the class. This can include seasonal medicines, the use of wild meats, and discussions on storytelling and ceremony. Her sessions also address boundaries, respect, and bullying. Join us for a virtual tour of the Secret Annex in the Netherlands. We'll explore Anne Frank's room and her diary, discussing life in hiding during World War II. Ribbon skirts are a symbol of resilience, sacredness and honour. Students will gain a better understanding of historic relationships and how best to move forward in today's society with mutual respect. Shauna will explore designs for both boys and girls. Ribbon Skirt & Shirt Teachings Shauna Pitawanakwat David is a traditional knowledge keeper, historian, and award-winning musician from Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. In this session, he explores "storytelling", the underestimated formalized educational system through three main categories: explanation of natural phenomena (e.g., creation stories), cautionary tales (warnings and moral lessons), and entertainment (community engagement through dance, music, and art). Various Indigenous legends and stories from across Turtle Island will be cited. The presentation can be tailored to the group's interests.
