In this interactive science experiment, students will be approaching the topic of light refraction from an Indigenous way of thinking through the topic of spearfishing. Using materials sent to you, students will attempt to spear a fish made of putty, apply the concept of light refraction and measure the accuracy of their attempts. Get your goggles on and dive into the world of vision! In this session, students dissect a cow eye to understand how the cornea, lens, retina, and more work to provide sight, just like a human eye. After the program, explore optical illusions with your class to see how your eyes and brain work together. This workshop deepens students' understanding of biology and sparks curiosity about sight and perception. Dissecting a Cow Eye Ann Arbour Hands-on Museum Ann Arbour also offers Owls From the Inside Out, Reptiles: Cold Blooded Classification, and more. Step into the shoes of a geologist in this workshop where students will learn to identify rocks and minerals based on key characteristics such as hardness, luster, and color. Students will discover the many uses and purposes of the Earth's geological wonders. The experience is enhanced as students handle real rock and mineral specimens, bringing their learning to life and deepening their appreciation for the Earth's natural resources. Boonshoft Museum of Discovery also offers The Science of Oil Spill Recovery, Rockets, Planets & Telescopes, and more. Mineral Detective Boonshoft Museum of Discovery Alex also offers Thermal Insulation & Wigwams. Check out Alex's Fireside Chat! There are movements in science that are validating the knowledge of our Indigenous people. I like to look at the work that I do. I always like to make sure I am attaching cultural knowledge.
