Deanne Nanookausi Hupfield received a Samuel Connected North Youth Leadership microgrant to start Regalia Making Inc., becoming a key figure in cultural revival. Since 2000, this Indigenous Educator from Temagami First Nation has dedicated herself to teaching powwow dance and regalia making, addressing the cultural disruption caused by systemic trauma like the residential school system and the 60s Scoop. Regalia Making Inc. embodies her commitment to community and education, offering Ribbon Skirt patterns and regalia-making training. Her programs connect generations and communities, teaching both technical skills and the deep cultural significance of these garments. Deanne's efforts go beyond crafting regalia; they are a powerful act of cultural reclamation. By helping others create regalia and dance with pride, she fosters a sense of identity and belonging, aiding in healing communities one ribbon skirt at a time.
