The students are familiar with the routine when we have a session, because they see the teacher set up the device in the classroom, and they see the title on the board. They are always excited to see their Connected North School Lead on the screen. It is even more special when she comes to visit! We were honoured to have the Connected North team, including a donor, visit the school in the spring. In this case, the presenter from Ann Arbor Museum told us about the role of owls in the food chain. The students were given pellets and tools for a dissection to find out what the owl ate. Many seminars send materials ahead of time for students to work with. Some of the seminars have extensions to deepen understanding in the form of worksheets and additional activities. In other cases, teachers can find worksheets from other sources. One example is the cow-eye dissection. The presenter sent the eyes and information sheets. The teacher rounded up tweezers, paper plates, and safety apparel; the local health clinic supplied scalpels. After the seminar, the teacher demonstrated optical activities from the information sheet and found an optical reading comprehension worksheet online.
