Kylie Geary Introduction C o n n e c t e d N o r t h i n O u r C l a s s r o o m Kylie Geary - Connected North in Our Classroom Igloolik High School Igloolik, Nunavut My name is Kylie Geary, and I have been teaching in Igloolik, Nunavut, for the past five years. I teach English to students in grades 10 to 12 at Iglulik High School. For those who may be unfamiliar with the territory of Nunavut, Igloolik is an Inuit hamlet in the Qikiqtaaluk Region. Igloolik means, "there is a house here." When I first heard of Connected North, I was a bit hesitant about whether my students would be engaged in a video chat with someone they had never met. I kept this in the back of my mind while I was choosing my first session. I decided to select a session that incorporated hands-on learning and had a presenter who was Inuk. My students love building and creating, so I was hoping to catch their engagement with a hands-on session, and I was hoping the presenter would be able to connect well with my students as they were from the Northwest Territories. 92
