Introduction to Connected North
When I first looked at the menu of options, it
was pretty challenging not to go overboard and
try and pick too many. The Connected North
staff has also been helpful in suggesting
sessions that would be an excellent fit with the
students at our school.
I tried to put myself in the shoes of our students
and determine what they would be interested
in, what they would learn from, and what would
be new to them and could align with our
curricular outcomes and expectations.
We also do things a little differently at Nanook
in that we are a relatively small elementary
school, so we try and do our Connected North
sessions as a school where applicable. That
said, there have been some options that were
not appropriate for the younger students but
did align well with the curriculum for the older
students.
My advice to any teacher looking to get
involved with Connected North is to look at
the sessions from the level of your students
and determine whether they would be
interesting to them and would lead to in-
depth, thoughtful conversations.
Also, look at what your areas of interest are
because that can also make the difference
between a good and not-as-good session.
