SESSION EXAMPLE: Ocean Wise "Squid Dissection - Inside Nature's Creatures" Students are introduced to the phylum Cephalopoda and the key characteristics that make this group of squids, octopuses, and cuttlefish so spectacular by joining the expert educator for a live squid dissection. SESSION EXAMPLE: Ontario Science Centre "Destination Space" Do you have what it takes to survive the wild extremes of space? Will your blood boil, or will your head explode? Students investigate why astronauts float, how they go to the bathroom and the benefits of space technology in everyday life. "They especially loved the sessions that mimicked space travel." SOCIAL STUDIES "The mock trials were incredibly valuable hands-on learning experiences for my students. Some of the students have interest in pursuing a career in the legal field and were able to ask questions." SESSION EXAMPLE: Level Justice "Mock Trial" This three-part series provides students with an opportunity to take part in an interactive Mock Trial activity where they have the chance to act out a part in a Canadian criminal trial. It was designed to build studentʼs critical thinking skills and confidence in public speaking, while also teaching them about the law in an interactive way. SESSION EXAMPLE: History Squad "RMS Titanic: A Health & Safety Tragedy" From a health and safety perspective, this session explores the construction, the voyage and the sinking of a ship that should have been unsinkable. Students also look into the enquiries and cover-ups that followed. MATH & FINANCIAL LITERACY SESSION EXAMPLE: Kym Dymond "Basic Budgeting" Students find the concept of creating a budget boring, what if you could make it exciting and thought provoking? Using information provided by the students, the group works together to understand where their money goes, different ways to save for their goals, and the basics of banking and loans. 11
