The talented writer, who grew up in the beautiful, remote, and breathtaking Arctic Bay, NU, passionately believes that music is an incredibly powerful, deeply creative, and highly educational outlet. She especially enjoys writing most of her wonderful songs in her native language, Inuktitut. In this engaging and interactive session, Becky will perform her heartfelt and moving song Qaariaq in Inuktitut, read it in English, and warmly and openly answer any audience questions toward the very end Storytelling Through Music: The Bee/Qaariaq Becky Han Write On! United for Literacy In this workshop students have an opportunity to explore their creativity through writing. The main focus is on developing their characters, settings and plot through various games and writing prompts. Throughout the session students will engage in group writing activities and have the time to work independently on their own creation. The session can be adapted for students in class or taking part in virtual learning. Author Christy Jordan-Fenton of Fatty Legs explores world- building techniques for crafting fiction and nonfiction stories. Using her four books about her Inuvialuk mother, Margaret Olemaun Pokiak-Fenton, and other classics, learners discover how world-building ignites stories. The session guides students from understanding world-building to imagining and creating their own worlds. Public Speaking The Actors Company In this session, students will learn and practice sound production, breath, clarity, volume, pacing, and techniques for dealing with "stage fright", and will learn a simple structure to organize and present a speech. This builds both self-confidence and effective strategies for the important life skill of speaking in public. Teaching artist can provide link to a YouTube video after the session that reviews vocal warm up and dealing with stage fright, if requested. 79
