Self Esteem and Body Positivity
Cierra Ja de Giesbrecht
Cierra is a fat activist, speaker, and coach with a passion for bringing awareness
to the injustices of fatphobia in the fashion and fitness industry and beyond.
She strives to help people feel comfortable and confident in their bodies at any
size so that they can live a magical life. This lesson helps young people reflect
on the messages they get and give (including to themselves) about personal
worth and value. They learn steps they can take to feel confident and good
about themselves. The book Bodies Are Cool by Tyler Feder will be referenced
and classrooms can request to receive a copy.
Things aren't always forever. Things
can be made better, especially
when you are being kind to yourself,
you're grounding yourself, and
you're surrounding yourself with
good, kind people.

Icons About You
Ashley Rose Cummings
We have seen through many different Indigenous groups and designs that
sometimes icons show up over and over again. Maybe they mean a specific
animal, or the sun and moon, or a mountain. Let's find our own icons to show
who we are! First, we will talk about what icons make us who we are. Then,
using our art supplies, we can make these icons together to share with our
friends. The goal of this session is to foster thoughtful, imaginative thinking to
establish security in one's own identity.
Ashley Rose also offers Letting Go of Fear.
