Bullying takes many forms; physical, emotional, verbal.
Verbal bullying may involve teasing, name-calling, or
spreading rumours about someone. Courtney Dawn
works with students who are victims of bullying. She
uses a variety of strategies to empower youth to address
bullying as well as how to take power over hurtful words.
Courtney will lead students in a discussion about the
effects of verbal abuse on the victim. Courtney will guide
the students through an art activity which will develop
confidence and support in dealing with verbal abuse.
Hurtful Words: Taking Power Back
In this session, students will learn how mental health
ideas are related to the medicine wheel. The
students will complete an art activity based on a
personal mental health survey. This information will
be used as the basis of a personal multi media art
piece. Teachers and students will need to collect a
few simple objects to create their art. A list of
material suggestions will be sent prior to the session.
