A majority of survey respondents (71%) said
they watched the preloaded educational
videos on the device, though a sizable
proportion of respondents (29%) were
not sure or did not watch them. Based on
interviews with device recipients, only two
out of the 13 interviewed said they had
watched the video materials attentively.
The rest of the interviewees said they either
skimmed through one or two videos or
did not watch them at all, though several
emphasized that they appreciated the effort
that went into putting them together.
When asked on a scale of 1 to 5 to what
extent the digital inclusion grant improved
their access to learning materials and
resources, 72% of survey respondents rated
the impact of the grant at a 5 (and 91% at
4 or above). Moreover, 83% of respondents
said the grant had greatly impacted their
ability to pursue secondary education. Every
student interviewed said the grant made it
more likely that they would graduate and
complete their postsecondary degree, both
because they became more motivated to
complete their schoolwork and because
they now had the tools they needed to
improve their educational outcomes. Almost
all students interviewed said, other than
the Digital Inclusion Grant, they did not
receive any additional support from any
other organization, school program or school
board.
