I think that the biggest skill I learned was communications. Before the
conference I had good in-person communicative and organizational skills. I
am outgoing and work well in different environments with different people.
The conference being all digital was definitely a challenge and area of
growth. Working virtually challenged me to communicate in different ways
through new and sometimes unfamiliar networks. I had to work with people
I didn't know very well and complete different and unknown tasks. This was
an exciting lesson, one that I believe I benefited from very much.
We learned a lot throughout the planning
and implementation of this project. We
each gained new skills and confidence in
ourselves to present. Communication was
a major takeaway for all of the treaty talks
team members. We learned and are
continuing to learn how to communicate
on our social media platforms, media
interviews, and much more. As our intent
is to provide accessible treaty education,
language is very important to ensure it is
easily understandable to all. Often on our
social media posts or treaty teach-ins, we
would break down acronyms, provide
definitions or breakdown legal jargon. As
a team, we learned how to use Zoom and
facilitate online events up to 50
participants. Particularly, I learned how
to create social media content with Canva
including our event posters and updates.
