From planning and
distributing various roles
to making a clear
schedule, planning in
advance was very
important in running the
event smoothly. Another
lesson was preparing
enough time to figure
things out. Time was
essential in contacting
the organizations,
finalizing budgets, and
providing items we had
forgotten to acquire
during the day of the
event.
6) Learned About Organization
An important lesson learned was that
time needs to be managed more
effectively. I felt that we
underestimated the difficulty of the
project, this caused disorganization
in the planning that took place. If I
could rewind and do this project over
again. I would have allocated more
time to the planning stage and given
the stage more care by allocating
time every day for this task. Now, I
know how to plan tasks under the
constraint of a budget. I realized that
there is this battle between what we
desire to do and what the budget
actually allows us to do. A skilled
planner knows how to mediate a
balance between these two extremes
of the spectrum.
The greatest lesson I learned from this
project was enhancing my organization
skills. Organizing a group of volunteers and
managing an in person volunteer event
requires a lot more planning than I had
estimated. While the event was successful
and orderly, I saw room for improvement for
the next time. It helped me hone my
leadership, planning and management skills.
