9) Education & Career Support With the grant received from #RisingYouth, the team was able to donate 5000+ school supplies [...] This will provide youth ages 16-24 with the necessary supplies they need to thrive in their education and ensure lack of supplies are not a barrier to getting their education. The University Experience Panel was inspired by our team's experiences with transitioning into post- secondary. As a team, we represent 3 different stages of post-secondary life: senior high school student, freshman student, and post-secondary graduate. In each stage, our perception of post-secondary changes. We understand that senior high school students are especially stressed by this challenge, so we wanted to find a way to ease the pressure [...] In creating this event, we wanted to cater to high school students from immigrant and underprivileged families. These individuals often lack strong social networks and may feel less informed on the post- secondary challenges and opportunities. "3D Community Printer": introduced students to learning about rapid prototyping & the design process "Hackathon For Women and Girls": led an event for female & non-binary students to collaborate & explore the STEM field "Legal Careers Orientation Workshop": held a conference for high school students to learn more about going into the field of law Project Leaders used their projects to develop creative solutions to address the lack of equity in accessing quality education and career options in their community. Examples: My project was based around providing laptops for Afghani immigrants coming to Canada. In order to support them in this way, I identified a community of immigrants in my city and began interacting with them to understand their technology needs. Next, I worked with BC tech to get 15 laptops plus their accessories [...] The families I helped were able to work remotely and therefore pursue jobs requiring a laptop. The children were able to attend classes from home and complete assignments through computer programs. Project Activities & Impacts Section 2: 20
