7) Arts-Based Activities
I used my grant to put together a
'creative cabinet' containing
journals, craft kits, art supplies,
and toys for the Cape Breton
Transition House. Being creative
has proven to be an excellent
way to improve mental health
and enhance social connections,
and can be an excellent outlet
for those who have experienced
domestic violence.
In addition to providing affordable live
theatre to over 250 attendees, we provided
opportunities for 10 actors and 11
designers/managers to work within their
chosen industry [...] For many people who
weren't able to practice their art for the last
two years, we created a community of
optimistic, talented individuals.
Our goal was to support as many
emerging creatives as possible in
building their capacity to
incorporate natural materials in
their artwork, and we were able to
achieve that through offering a
variety of different events...
"Woman Jazz Jams": hosted 5 jazz jams for femme-
identifying and non-binary musicians
"Afghan Artists Night": showcased and promoted the
creative works of Afghan artists
"Online Art for Elderly Workshops": facilitated
intergenerational painting workshop with elderly
Chinese immigrants
Project Leaders developed unique ways for individuals to
have access to arts-based training, supplies, & expression in
their community.
