7) Arts-Based Activities I used my grant to put together a 'creative cabinet' containing journals, craft kits, art supplies, and toys for the Cape Breton Transition House. Being creative has proven to be an excellent way to improve mental health and enhance social connections, and can be an excellent outlet for those who have experienced domestic violence. In addition to providing affordable live theatre to over 250 attendees, we provided opportunities for 10 actors and 11 designers/managers to work within their chosen industry [...] For many people who weren't able to practice their art for the last two years, we created a community of optimistic, talented individuals. Our goal was to support as many emerging creatives as possible in building their capacity to incorporate natural materials in their artwork, and we were able to achieve that through offering a variety of different events... "Woman Jazz Jams": hosted 5 jazz jams for femme- identifying and non-binary musicians "Afghan Artists Night": showcased and promoted the creative works of Afghan artists "Online Art for Elderly Workshops": facilitated intergenerational painting workshop with elderly Chinese immigrants Project Leaders developed unique ways for individuals to have access to arts-based training, supplies, & expression in their community.
