5) Climate Action & Sustainable At the end of each week, we collect batteries from our recycling boxes. We noticed that every time the recycling boxes are filled to the top with all kinds of used batteries. This observation leads us to conclude that our project has been really successful, since a lot of residents living in our neighbourhood must have brought in their used batteries for our boxes to fill up at such a quick pace. Therefore, we were able to make quite a remarkable impact [...] without these recycling boxes, a lot of used batteries would not have been recycled at all! I hosted work parties to restore a creek ecosystem in a forest in my community! Every week I invited volunteers from diverse backgrounds to come and remove invasive Himalayan blackberry. At the end of the project, we restored the site with native species that will provide food and shelter for wildlife. We did a clothing swap. The purpose of this event was to promote the recycling of clothes and ignite a more conscious consumer behaviour in fashion. Recycling clothes through these events is a great way to keep clothes in the reuse cycle and out of landfills, while saving precious resources like water, energy and agricultural land [...] Our goal is to divert clothing from landfills and extend the life-cycle of clothing in our community, while educating and engaging our community in sustainable fashion. "Furniture Upcycle Support": fixed & redesigned previously unusable furniture for donation "Urban Forestry Tree Planting": coordinated & planted trees in low tree cover areas of the city "Environmentally-Friendly Recipes": created a cookbook with recipes that allow individuals to address the climate crisis Project Leaders created effective projects to address the ongoing need for climate action & sustainability in their local and global community.
