The impact that was achieved, was we were able to
come together as creatives at such a difficult time,
with Covid often hindering the ability to be in
creative spaces with one another. It was very
beneficial for many of the artist that have been
experiencing mental health issues and lack of
inspiration due to the pandemic.
1) Social Connectedness
I was able to create a small community of student
mothers who could rely on one another for support.
We learned and gained a lot of insight through the
personal narratives that were shared from the guest
speakers. For example, one guest speaker was a child
welfare worker and an Indigenous doula. She shared
her experience in both of these roles and also her
hardships in attending school as a single mother and
leaving an unhealthy relationship for a better life.
With this dodgeball
tournament we were
able to offer a fun
activity for the youth in
Yellowknife to partake
in. This gave the
opportunity for the
youth to meet new
friends in a less
intimating setting.
"Social Dialogue Dinner": created an opportunity for
youth to connect with others over a meal & games
"Outdoor Wellness Event": hosted a variety of
wellness events for the community to come together
"Care Kits for Cancer Patients": distributed care kits
to oncology departments to reduce isolation
Project Leaders addressed the ongoing social isolation in
their community, exacerbated for many by the pandemic,
and developed projects that increased feelings of social
connection among individuals.
