It is with respect, humility and kindness that our team would like to
acknowledge the land that nourishes us.
We acknowledge our interconnectedness and are thankful for the water that flows and life
that grows each day. Our organization is comprised of a team from many diverse
backgrounds who are situated on Indigenous lands across many First Nations, Inuit and
Métis communities. In this context, we approach our work with a shared responsibility in
upholding treaty agreements and awareness of the ancestors who have come before us,
along with the impact of our efforts for generations to come.
As we mourn the children that continue to be recovered at unmarked burial sites at Residential
Schools across Canada, it is important that we continue to educate ourselves and reflect on our
own calls to action, both personally and professionally. Indigenous members of the Connected
North team prepared this resource with comprehensive learning materials that we would like to
share as we all continue to respond to the Truth and Reconciliation Commitee's Call to Action. Our
thoughts are with the communities we partner with through the Connected North Program.
Artwork by Connected North Content Provider Ovila Mailhot - Ovila created this original work in response to the
news shared by the Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation about the remains of 215 children found on the
grounds at the former Kamloops Residential School. He generously has shared it with the Connected North
community.
