F I L M Y O U R S E L F L I K E A B O S S 31 • What are things that you've learned? • What are your hopes for the future? • And finally, any parting thoughts for the people? Now you're set to record your video and to film yourself like a boss. LESSON 2: SHOOTING YOUR FOOTAGE With our wicked interview ready to go, we just need some slick looking footage. Since we won't be speaking directly on camera, we need B-roll. If you were filming someone in an interview, that would be your main shot. B roll could be closeups of your subjects hands, or footage of them outside, drawing, or filming. Here's how to pick what to shoot: Listen through your interview and pick out things that you could film. Create a shotlist. That's a point form list of shots that you want to get to put over top of your interview. Other examples are shots of you doing your work or doing things that you enjoy. Get shots of objects that you work around your tools, your space, things that bring you joy and show your personality. • Some trees • Closeup of my hands • wide shots of the cultural centre • close ups of the poles and canoe • my goofy face Go out and get your footage. B ROLL: footage that is supplemental to your main shot.
