Lighting You also want to make sure you place yourself in the best light, literally. You can diffuse overly harsh light with an umbrella like Anna does so it doesn't cast so many shadows. A ring light can be pretty helpful for creating great lighting. Research Outside of the lighting and sound, you want to make sure you do your homework for the action audition. Take a deep dive into • whatever the audition scene that you're doing is • what could come before in the scene • what comes after • what are your intentions when you're doing the scene? • what is the backstory of the character that you're trying to portray • how you want to embody this character • how you think they would react and respond • what you think the story is • all the different aspects of this character that you want to portray • whatever takes that you have on this character To get ready, make sure you read the character's description and do an in-depth anal- ysis of your character and of the scene. Doing that makes all the difference in your performance and will show through in the emotions that you portray, in the way that you respond to people and in the character as a whole. Put a lot of thought into what your performance is going to be. "You want to engage with the person that you are performing with and you want to be immersed in the scene and not constantly having to look down to find out what your next line is. " Be As Off Book As Possible Try to have the emotions and the vibe of the scene, along with all the words, before you even get in front of the camera. BEING OFF BOOK: you know all the words, the emotions you're trying to portray and what the scene is about
