Sharing Their World
With filmmaker media mentors through ImagineNative,
drone technology, photography, videography, in
partnership with Chiefs of Ontario, Create to Learn:
Stories from our Roots was a learning opportunity that
let Ontario First Nations youth explore storytelling
in new ways. They were provided with the tools and
skills to tell stories in their communities with impact.
38 youth were nominated by their communities to
participate in this innovative learning experience.
" A lot of youth struggle today
with not being heard or how
to express themselves...
this is a huge impact and
I think it definitely leads
the way for change."
Brooke Temple, Create to Learn participant
" [Nova Scotia] has given me
the opportunity to meet our
Inuit leaders and ask them all
the questions that I have."
Anu Boucher, Create to Learn participant
Create to Learn provided opportunities to
share their perspective on the world around
them and participate in saving it.
13 Inuit students at Nunavut Sivuniksavut in Ottawa created videos during our November summit,
learning how to better document the stories of their world. Along the way, they joined the climate
strike to force action on Climate Change. "Who are we? Inuit! What do we want? To be cold!" Waving
signs and singing traditional songs, these youth didn't just tell stories, they created them.
