SETTING UP PARTICIPANTS FOR SUCCESS
One thing that the COVID 19 pandemic made apparent is that even those living in
busy metropolitan cities don't have equal access to technology. The technology
and resource divide makes it less accessible for many young artists to participate
in virtual programming. Here are a few tips on how your organization can help
set up participants for success as they continue to learn in their creative journey:
Assessing Access to Technology: It is important to have open communication
with participants and their families to learn the different levels of access the
young artists have to technology tools.
Ask the following questions to determine the technology resources available to
the young artist:
• Does the young artist have access to reliable wifi, internet access, or data?
If no, does the organization plan to set up community hotspots or buy
extended data packages for the young artists?
• Does the young artist have a personal laptop, tablet or smartphone? Or do
they share this device with a family member? How long can the young
artist have access to this device?
