Turner is a professional actor and speech coach, a past member of The National Speakers Bureau (U.S.), and an award-winning public speaker (speech and debate) of both the National and Catholic Forensic Leagues (U.S.). Students will learn and practice sound production, breath, clarity, volume, pacing, and techniques for dealing with "stage fright," and will learn a simple structure to organize and present a speech. If more than one session is desired, students can also receive constructive critiqued on their prepared speeches. WRITE THE SCRIPT FOR YOUR LIFE with Sonya Ballantyne Sonya Ballantyne is a writer and filmmaker originally from Misipawistik Cree Nation in Northern Manitoba. Her work focuses on Indigenous women and girls in non- traditional film genres such as horror, sci-fi, and fantasy. Her first film, Crash Site has played in festivals internationally and she hopes to direct a Superman film adaptation in the future. Sonya's session will look at the importance of storytelling to her life: from dealing with racism as a child to following her dream to be a writer. The world is changeable and Sonya wants to write the script. POL A R BE A R SON with Winnipeg Art Gallery In this session, students will listen to the storybook The Polar Bear Son, an Inuit Tale, retold and illustrated by Lydia Dabcovich, and students will have the opportunity to create their own small booklet with images of scenes from the story. MOON OF THE CRUSTED SNOW - BOOK TA LK WITH THE AUTHOR with Waubgeshig Rice Waub will talk about the inspiration of the book, the writing process and how the book relates to recent world events. Classes who request this session will be sent copies of the book to read in preparation for the session. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions, book club style and discuss the themes of the book with Waub. Please allow 6 weeks prior to the session to allow for shipping books and time to read "Moon of the Crusted Snow."
