As we move into the next 150 years of this country, and we learn of the atrocities committed against first nations people who inhabited this land prior to this country's existence. While we navigate these turbulent waters my wish is for people to be more open to the simple idea of listening. In my time as an artist and working alongside elders and teachers of my traditional art form, the common theme is present when the thought of talking about those dark times comes around, its they wonder will anyone truly listen? This wish isn't meant to make people feel as if they haven't been listening already, but listen more openly. Listen with your heart, with your mind, and with your spirit to their stories of both struggle and resistance. We don't want to be just another mark on history but rather play a vital role in telling that history in its truest sense."
