Science WALKING UP THE FOOD CHAIN with Ann Arbor Hands on Museum Together with the Leslie Science and Nature Center, we will create a food chain using LIVE animals (such as hawk/owl, snake, frog, spider and roach). Starting with a roach as our decomposer, we will take a close look at 5 live animals on a guided tour up a food chain. On our journey we will discuss how these animals are all connected and learn about the delicate balance that allows them to survive both individually and as wildlife sharing a habitat. CLIMATE CHANGE: INVESTIG ATING OUR IMPAC T * with Cleveland Museum of Natural History There's no debate during this program! Heat up your classroom as we challenge your students to explore the connection between several simple scientific principles and the changes in temperature and weather that scientists refer to as "global climate change". During this interactive investigation we will experiment with the phenomenon of the "greenhouse effect", directly observe the relationship between visible and infrared light, illustrate several techniques used to gather climate data from the past, and detail how it is used to predict future changes. *Materials required. SHOCKING SCIENCE with Science Central Join in on a hair-raising set of static electricity-related activities that are fun for all ages by witnessing a Van de Graaf generator in action! This demonstration gives students first-hand experience with some of the subtleties of static and non-static electricity, and addresses electrons, protons, voltage and currents, with students on an age- appropriate basis. SCIENCE BELOW ZERO with Don Harrington Discovery Centre Science Below Zero examines some of the chilliest science on the planet. Students will discover the physical changes which occur when solids, liquids and gases are exposed to the extreme cold of liquid nitrogen. Audiences will be amazed as we use liquid nitrogen to power the DHDC Music Machine for the grand finale!
