In this session students meet Nyle and we look through his artwork as he shares stories about his drawing and how it is important for all people to know that Indigenous people exist and have such a strong, beautiful legacy of stories and teachings. The stories resonate with people across different cultures and they carry universal messages of love, kindness, fairness and care for mother earth. COLL AGR APHY – AN OPEN PRINTMAKING METHOD with Arts Umbrella Arts Umbrella artist-instructors will guide students through the Collagraphy process to create a multi-medium art project. Collagraphy is an accessible printmaking method that starts with a process similar to collage. A variety of materials (anything that will add texture—from twigs and leaves to textiles, yarn, bubble wrap, etc.) will be applied to a rigid surface (such as paperboard or wood) which will create a printing "plate". Students will learn techniques to achieve different tonal effects and vibrant colours, using the depth of the relief they create and differential inking. Throughout the session, students will have an opportunity to explore traditional and non-traditional ways of art making and will make multiple Collagraph prints from their own original plate.
