Be Ready for Change Farooq Khan & Ayesha Liaqat | Co-Founders of Math Energetics One of the major lessons I learned was that having to change ideas and going into roadblock/dead ends is extremely common. I was able to understand the process it takes to creating your own business. [This experience has] provided me with a better understanding of how to solve subtle but important problems. My presentation skills improved tenfold. Having to talk to large groups of people about a developing ideas is a very new experience for me and so I learned how to communicate better. Math Energetics is a math engagement project with the aim of bringing mathematics to life and making it more accessible to children in rural KPK, Pakistan. Zoe Osborne | Founder, Mahogany Culture Collective The primary lesson that was learned through this fellowship is that you cannot rush the process of something that is going to be successful. I had hoped to achieve many things in this time but after learning about the industry and community I realized that I needed to rethink some of my ideas and make this project more innovative. I learned that I cannot do this all alone and that I need to find partners as soon as possible. I also learned the importance of continually including the community and remembering that my experience and desire does not necessarily line up with theirs. The Mahogany Culture Collective is a Caribbean history and culture collective that focuses on Caribbean culture retention within the metropolitan city of Toronto. Its aim is to create a community for people from all Caribbean islands and allow them to fully engage in Caribbean culture through open discussions, workshops and events, knowledge of history and a physical means of identity. 17
