Thousands of Youth Across the Globe Engage in Collaborative Mobilization Connecting Indigenous Leaders with Youth As the world moves forward in responding to the climate crisis, it becomes more and more evident that the drive to decarbonize our world must be connected with the process of decolonization. To explore the relationship between these social movements, TakingITGlobal, The Centre for Global Education, and a number of strategically chosen partner organizations, are looking to take direction from Indigenous elders, community members, scholars, and activists to co-create a collaborative mobilization that will engage thousands of youth from across the globe. Building on a decade of global digital youth engagement at the United Nations Climate Meetings and with guidance from Indigenous leaders, this project will educate and mobilize young people from various positions to act as allies in the fight against climate change. #Decolonize: #Decarbonize 2018 will synthenize a statement of action to demonstrate the centrality of Indigenous voice to meaningful climate action. We hope to draw connections across the UN Declaration of Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the Sustainable Development Goals, UNFCCC processes, the revitalization of Indigenous Cultures and ongoing Truth and Reconciliation efforts taking place around the world. The statement of action will amplify the commitment of young people on these issues and set a clear path for action to implement just and sustainable policies and practises.
