Hope for the Future
Collaboration for this report was driven by a shared commitment to supporting the children and youth who are
following in our footsteps. It is our sincere hope that our words and actions will help pave safer pathways for
Indigenous young people to identify their gifts and to realize the important place that they hold in our communities
and the world.
"The fire always reminds me of love. It is warm, uncontrollable and it spreads without permission. I try to spread it to
my community, but sometimes people aren't used to it. They're not used to someone offering love sincerely, even
just by asking how they are. Because of this I try to start with just giving little sparks because that's all that some
people are ready to accept. The thing about sparks though is that they can start fires too. I believe that someone
put sparks into me and so I want to do the same for other young people, continuing to care for these relationships
in the same way that you tend a fire."
