Samatar Hassan, Ontario Youth Muslim Soccer Association Soccer is not only the world's most popular sport, but it is a way for youth to build skills on the field while learning teamwork and sportsmanship. From the first day of the summer league, the young athletes worked together and supported their teammates through the highs and lows of a match. Reflecting on his experience, Samatar found it incredibly rewarding to see their excitement, teamwork, and genuine joy. At the end of the program, they hosted a small farewell tournament for the players to show what they had learned and celebrate their progress. The energy and excitement from the players and their loved ones highlighted how much this program meant to the community. Samatar considers this project to be the beginning of his social innovation journey. He wants to continue leading programs that create real opportunities for youth to grow as confident players and active community members. Who knows, maybe one of the players from the Youth Muslim Soccer Association might win a World Cup! I am truly grateful for the support from the Sprout Ideas Fellowship. This opportunity allowed me to bring to life a project I had always envisioned and support my community. I was able to create a space for youth who may not have the financial means to join leagues.
