We provide Northern youth with tailored support and tools that enable them to overcome the barriers that many Northern youth currently face when transitioning from high school to post- secondary education and careers. This presentation can be geared towards the needs of the students on topics ranging from identifying your career interests, exploring post-secondary and work options, and accessing your next steps. The students will receive a workbook to complete with the presenter. What's Next After High School? Northern Compass @ Northern Youth Abroad Northern Compass is made up of a team of Northern educators, Beverly Pitawanakwat is Ojibwe from the Wikwemikong reserve on Overcoming Challenges Beverly Pitawanakwat Manitoulin Island. Beverly was raised on the reserve and attended residential day school from Kindergarten to Grade 8. Beverly has faught her entire life to break out of the "box" she had always been put in because she was Indigenous and a woman. She went to college to become a Machinist Specialist, the only female in her program. She then joined the Navy and became one of the first female Navy Ships Diver in Canada. She has also spent 20 years in the RCMP serving Indigenous communities through 8 different moves in Saskatchewan and BC. In this session, Beverly will share more about her path, how she continuously overcame challenges, and will encourage students to keep reaching for their goals.
