Social Studies & Indigenous Studies We invite you to attend a thought-provoking presentation at a date and Stereotypes & Racism Woodland Cultural Centre time of your choice, focusing on the critical issues of Indigenous stereotypes and racism. In this session, we will examine common stereotypes and their origins, explore how society shapes and perpetuates these stereotypes through various mediums, including advertising, movies, and systemic/institutional racism; and engage in discussions about the impact of these stereotypes on Indigenous communities. This presentation aims to foster understanding and encourage meaningful conversations about these important topics. We look forward to your participation! Woodland Culture Centre also offers Wampum Belts. Students will explore the fascinating process of transforming qiviut—luxurious wool from sustainably harvested muskoxen—into beautiful, high-quality products. Led by Inuvialuk fiber artists and co-founders Tanis Simpson or Bradley Carpenter, students will witness the mill's vintage machines in action and learn about the rich cultural heritage behind this unique craft. After the tour, students will create their very own muskox keepsake using qiviut undercoat, glue, and coloring materials. Additionally, each class will receive an educational kit that includes materials and demonstrations of the mill process to keep for future lessons. Discovering Qiviut Tanis Akutuq Simpson Join us for an exciting tour of Qiviut Inc., a 100% Inuit-owned fiber mill! We come from such strong people, we made it through all of that stuff in the past, and we are still here today. Check out Tanis's Fireside Chat! 86
