Professional Development A teacher PD session discussing what Social Emotional Learning in Social Emotional Learning in Math Nicole Thomson Math is, why it's important, and how we can teach it. This session uses the Love Math Journal to show concrete ways of teaching SEL in Math. will be introduced to the Science of Reading, which is the collection of research about how reading and spelling develop. It will include an understanding of how the brain learns to read, the stages of literacy development, the pillars of effective reading instruction and an overview of evidence-based classroom practices that can support all students. Specific assessment and instructional practices will be addressed in the individual "Delving Deeper" sessions. Introduction to the Science of Reading Learn Different It is an exciting time to be an educator! In this session, educators Janine is a senior social worker and psychotherapist with a specific Understand Anxiety - CBT in the Classroom Janine Lawford interest and expertise in the area of trauma. She has extensive experience working with adults, children, youth and their families. Janine worked at the Hincks-Dellcrest Centre now the Sick Children's Centre for Community Mental Health, over fifteen years, as a therapist, trainee supervisor and instructor. She created and led both a trauma seminar and a trauma-focused assessment and treatment team. In her private practice, she offers psychotherapy and specialized training as well as consultation to the Tele-Link Mental Health program at the Hospital for Sick Children and Connected North, in the area of trauma. 102 Shannon brings stories and examples as well as research around the importance of maintaining professional boundaries in the teaching profession, also highlighting the importance of personal boundaries at work and at home. Participants will have a chance to work together and share stories, as well as develop a plan for moving forward in a positive way.
