Beverly, an Ojibwe from the Wikwemikong reserve on Manitoulin Island, attended residential day school and has spent her life breaking free from societal constraints as an Indigenous woman. She became the only woman in her Machinist Specialist program, joined the Navy as one of Canada's first female Navy Ships Divers, and served 20 years in the RCMP, working with Indigenous communities. In this session, Beverly will share more about her path, how she continuously overcame challenges, and will encourage and inspire students to pursue their goals. Exploring business careers in the automotive industry Georgian College Taylor Woods is the Marketing Officer for the Automotive Business School of Canada. With over a decade of marketing experience, I've spent the last six years working with the automotive industry. This session aims to help students explore business careers in the automotive industry across Canada. We'll cover various segments, career opportunities, and what it's like to work in them. Additionally, there will be an interactive session on marketing and branding in the automotive sector. Ovila Mailhot, a Coast Salish graphic artist from Seabird Island in British Columbia, is of Sto:lo and Nlaka'pamux Nation heritage. A highly respected and in-demand designer, he creates custom logos for various companies. Ovi will share his journey as a self-taught Indigenous artist, offering inspiration and practical advice on starting a small business and becoming a freelance designer.
