It is made to be shared. Fusion Fun: Anime Meets Coast Salish Art Ovila Mailhot Discover how Ovi blends his strong interest in Anime and his passion for traditional Coast Salish art. In this engaging and fun session, Ovi will demonstrate an Anime-Coast Salish drawing activity, carefully guiding students step-by- step. Participants will learn useful techniques and create their own unique Anime-inspired artwork, incorporating key elements of Coast Salish design. This interactive activity encourages creativity while exploring the exciting fusion of two distinct artistic traditions. 27 C O N N E C T E D N O R T H 2 0 2 4 - 2 0 2 5 S E S S I O N M E N U This immersive studio explores Indigenous storytelling, thoughtfully emphasizing the deep connection between the natural and spiritual worlds. Students will respond creatively to nature's intricate visual patterns while reflecting on their personal relationship to the world. The engaging activities were developed with Don Chrétien, a talented Ojibwe artist inspired by Norval Morrisseau and the Anishinaabe School of Painting. Storytellers and Image Makers Part One McMichael Canadian Art Collection Jim Oskineegish is an Indigenous artist who paints in the Woodland Art Tradition. He has been painting professionally for 16 years and has worked with organizations like the Nishnawbe Gamik Friendship Centre in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. He will soon have an exhibition at the Thunder Bay Art Gallery. Students will learn about the history of Woodland Art and the meanings behind its symbols. They will also have the opportunity to draw and use the symbols demonstrated in the session, offering an introduction to the art form and its practices. Woodland Art Jim Oskineegish
