Things were pretty heavy, and the internet of course is quite heavy at times, so as a response and an outlet for my schooling (stresses) and things like that, I started creating funny designs. I started putting things like "Ever Sick" and "Not Even" on designs... Now I have over a hundred different designs in my shop. Stinky Feet & Itchy Bums Ever Good Medicine Carl Jr. Kodakin-Yakeley is Shutagot'ine from the communities of Tulita and Deline First Nations in the Northwest Territories. This session teaches students basic tips on harvesting traditional Dene medicines by following the story of Kalemi and her grandma who go out on the Land to harvest high bush cranberries (a.k.a. stinky feet) and rosehips (a.k.a. itchy bums). Students will learn how to respect and connect to the Land and about berries they can harvest with the help of their local Elders or parents. Laura Leonard is of Maliseet descent and is widely known both as a powerful hand drum singer as well as a prolific fashion designer. She also holds a BA in Native Studies from Brandon University. This hands on workshop will guide students to assemble leather pieces to make a medicine bag. The meanings of the four sacred medicines and the four colours of the medicine wheel are discussed. Students each receive their own kit with all the materials required to complete the project. Medicine Bag Laura Leonard Health & Wellness 54 Healing Through Art and Humour (Make your own sticker) Amy Jackson From Opaskwayak Cree Nation, Amy works as a digital content creator, using digital and graphic design to help companies build their online presence. Art has been a vital part of her journey, offering growth and healing. In this session, Amy will help students design a sticker based on a meaningful word from their community, which will then be printed and mailed to the school. She will also discuss how content creation has enabled her to collaborate with organizations like Manitobah Mukluks and Sephora.
