Bat Biology - Experimenting with Echolocation Reptiles - Examining the shedding of a snake We took a closer look at snakeskin that was sent from Ann Arbor Hands on Museum. Several sessions send follow-up activities or materials to be used during, after, or even before the session. Our class received a kit with Cold- blooded classification of reptiles. The students explored the kit after the presentation. These materials can be used in workstations and during exploration time. We explored echolocation used by bats. All seven bat echolocation centres were set up that morning and ready for use. To ensure success for activities, I always try to schedule sessions either after a recess break or prep period. This way I can set up my room carefully for the presentation. I can set up experiments and have all the workstations ready. The listening space is clean and ready for the kids. I always do a little movement break before the session starts so they do not get restless during the session (sitting can be hard for little ones). I found the carpet to be the most successful area to hold a session. C o n n e c t e d N o r t h i n O u r C l a s s r o o m Cindy Freeman - Connected North in Our Classroom 23
