"WOW" MOMENTS THAT LAST A LIFETIME All 6,560 sessions had the goal to engage and inspire students. When students are exposed to different perspectives from people who are passionate and fascinated by a topic, the students become more interested as well. Here are a few "Wow!" moments from the sessions this school year. Thank you to all the content providers who made these connections possible! ARTS SESSION EXAMPLE: Centre des arts visuels "Atelier en peinture acrylique" A session delivered in French for participating Francophone schools and french classes. Students learn about techniques for acrylic painting, and are guided to create a self-portrait using several colours that represent themselves. "The drawing sessions encouraged kids to try multiple attempts. Great resilience and persistence" SESSION EXAMPLE: Priscilla Boulay From a family of multi-generational carvers in Tuktuuyaqtuuq (Tuktoyaktuk), Inuvialuit Settlement Region, Priscilla Boulay is a sculptor who has been active with Connected North for two years. Showing students how to carve with soapstone and alabaster, she has become one of the most booked providers - this year alone she delivered over 290 sessions! CULTURE SESSION EXAMPLE: David Wilkinson-Simard "Drumming" David Wilkinson-Simard is an Ojibway member of Lac Seul First Nation and a recording artist with the Thunder Mountain Singers. In this session, David shares drum teachings and powwow expectations. 9
