LANGUAGE RESOURCES
Supporting schools to bring Indigenous languages into the classroom is a
privilege for our team. We delivered 194 "Native Language Studies" classes
this year - a 117% increase from the previous year. We are proud to work with
local Indigenous language teachers to extend their reach to new schools.
We also supported the publishing of "Bean and Grandmaʼs Weekend" by
author Wentanoron Ariana Roundpoint. She is a Mohawk woman from
Akwesane, Ontario who began writing in her elementary school years and
decided to never stop. Arianaʼs work helps to mend the gap between two
generations; one who speaks the mother language of her people, and another
racing towards new heights for the future.
DIGITAL INCLUSION GRANTS
2022-2023 marked the third year of our participation in the
Government of Canadaʼs Supports for Student Learning
(SSLP) program. During the 2022-2023 school year we
provided 1,031 Indigenous graduating students across 9
provinces and 3 territories with a laptop, preloaded with
learning content featuring Indigenous role models, to support their education and learning pathways.
We collaborated with the Leadership Lab at Toronto Metropolitan University to develop a report on
the impact of these grants on students. We found that 83% of participants say their ability to
pursue post-secondary education has greatly improved, and 81% increased their desire and
ability to be more involved in their community!
