hile the economic pres-
sures of the COVID-19 pan-
demic affected many com-
munities, those who experience periods
still had to pay for expensive necessities,
such as menstrual products. That's why
Saanvi Mital and her friends created
PeriodPacs, which are care packages
that consisted of pads, tampons, and
liners.
They used their #RisingYouth grant to
purchase the supplies and their team
then met to assemble the packages to
drop off at a local women's shelter. With
the funding, they were able to create
158 complete packages with enough
period supplies for at least one cycle
with a few extras. They even added in
candy and a handwritten note to spread
some kindness!
"I'm really proud of the way our team
came together with this project with a
common vision," Saanvi shares. "It is so
amazing and fills us with so much pride
at the impact we were able to achieve
thanks to the grant and with us putting
in some hours of volunteer work. It was
truly such a gratifying experience that
showed us how much of an impact we
can have as youth."
